Treetops Lodge and Estate, Rotorua New Zealand – a Luxurious Retreat
Treetops is the culmination of owner John Sax’s dream to create a luxurious sanctuary offering a unique New Zealand experience in the natural surroundings of a 2,500-acre wildlife reserve. A sojourn at Treetops offers a multi-layered luxury experience.
The estate embraces native forests and spring-fed trout streams, with the backdrop of the towering Horohoro bluffs creating a natural amphitheatre. Maori carvings integrated into the lodge's structure reinforce the unique essence of New Zealand/Aotearoa, while the country’s pioneering past is reflected in the architectural style. Natural stone and timbers give a warm organic ambience and invite the outdoors in. The sound of cascading water and dancing reflections of dappled light enhance the other-world atmosphere, and in all directions visitors are afforded sprawling or intimate views of the treetops that gave the lodge its name. Birdsong is never far away.
Guests can choose to stay in the Treetops Lodge, in one of eight privately situated luxury villas or the self-contained Pheasant Cottage. Departing from the bland uniformity of many hotels, each suite in the lodge is individually named and stamped with its own unique décor. All rooms are appointed with quality furnishings and bathrooms come complete with enormous spa baths for those long, luxurious soaks at the end of the day. Villas include a spacious lounge area and the romance of an open fire.
Treetops Offers Fine Cuisine and a Maori Indigenous Food Trail
Treetops cuisine focuses on healthful ingredients, locally-grown produce and New Zealand specialties of game, seafood, quality meats and fine wines. Long before European colonists brought exotic plants to New Zealand, the indigenous Maori explored the use of native herbs, shrubs and barks for cooking and healing purposes. To complement Treetops’ eco-friendly ethos, a Maori indigenous food tour has been introduced. Guests who participate have the opportunity to sample various traditional Maori foods made with plants found on the property, and learn about their medicinal and nutritional properties. Cost: from $185 + GST per hour.
Trout Fishing, Hiking, Horseriding, Hunting and Sightseeing at Treetops
There are trout in the streams and ponds of the Treetops Estate or more adventurous anglers may travel further afield to fish in one of the many superb trout fisheries in the region. Pig and deer hunting safaris are available at Treetops; guided expeditions can be arranged into more remote areas.
Fifty kilometers of hiking, biking and horseriding trails wind through Treetops, with walks being designed for all fitness levels. An especially lovely walking experience is the trail up to Bridal Veil falls. Many other activities and sightseeing in the nearby geothermal centre of Rotorua may be arranged on request, or guests can simply ‘stay put’ and enjoy the luxury of Treetops’ tranquil surroundings.
Treetops Lodge and Estate is an Intimate Wedding and Honeymoon Venue
Treetops is an especially private venue for weddings, an intimate, romantic honeymoon destination and an idyllic interlude for Valentines Day.
